Girls, Good & OtherwiseHappy New Year!
It's my favorite time of year. Most of the world lives by the Gregorian calendar, and that makes this the closest thing we really come to a global holiday. For that reason alone, I think it's worth celebrating. Never mind the resolutions, people, just set some good intentions and watch the beauty of your year unfold!

Coming up in 2012... In January, we drop the new CD to national radio, and the performance highlight on the calendar is definitely the Urban Campfires show in San Antonio. And mid-month is bringing a week's winter beach break to do a little writing (yes, it's time to start pulling the next CD together, and I'll take any excuse to get away from these cedar fever allergies in Austin).

New reviews for Girls, Good & Otherwise are starting to come in, and they're all keepers, every one of them. Check out the "Press" page to read the latest, read them all.

Starting in February, and running on the last Sunday evening of every month, I'll be running a live, streamed web concert as a way of reaching audiences anywhere. Calling it the My House to Yours Concert Series, these hour-long shows will allow us to chat and yak in between songs, courtesy of our laptops. More details to come, but check out the "Gigs" page for dates.

Before we kiss 2011 farewell, I must first shout out a big thanks to friends, fans, and supporters for a great 2011. I have many friends for whom 2011 was one of the worst years ever, but I got out lucky. Really lucky. A couple of highlights:
*  This past summer, the free advance download of the new CD ended up with over 6,000 song downloads, and yes -- that completely beat my expectations.

*  We did an Austin release of the new CD late in the year with a great party at Momo's, too. In spite of some crazy-stiff competition in town that night, the house was full, and we've got the video to prove it. (Side note: It's a HEARTBREAKER that Momo's shuttered its doors on December 27th. I can't think of any other venue in Austin that has done more to support women artists.)

*  I was lucky enough to have songs featured on three compilations CDs which came out in the fall of 2011, and all of them were in support of worthy missions.

So here's to a fine 2012 for everyone. I know that there are some curious prophecies out there about Mayans having predicted the end of the world this year. I'm pretty confident that the Mayans just got tired of writing our their calendar, however. And if we're going to apply mysticism to their actions, I'd prefer to think that we're just in for something new and wonderful.

But then again, that's how I feel at the start of each new year. Works for me. ;-)

Latest reviews for the new CD!

Girls, Good & Otherwise

Visit the Press page for full review coverage.

"For women, every day is a tightrope walk of actions both micro and macro in scale, the mundane mingling gloriously with the transcendent. This delicious tension is at the root of singer-songwriter Jean Synodinos' third album, Girls, Good & Otherwise... [and] the ace in the hole is Synodinos' velvety voice, which encapsulates both the beauty and pain of being a girl, Good & Otherwise." -- Melanie Haupt, Austin Chronicle

"Nothing pretentious or fake, just raw emotion and an endearing look at the world... Perhaps Jean's unapologetic approach to music is her secret... she truly holds her own next to any national act with this performance... [Jean's] best work to date." -- Lucky Boyd, MyTexasMusic.com

"We can't help but wonder how long it might be before Jean Synodinos receives the recognition she so rightly deserves... music that could be easily be appreciated by millions upon millions of listeners... if they could only hear her songs. Eleven classy tracks here and they're all keepers." -- babysue.com

"Beg, borrow, or buy her new album... It's beautiful and jazzy and sexy and bold like the women she writes about." -- Tom Ashcraft, FeedYourFan.com
