About "Breathe"

If its predecessor Lucky could be described as a great landscape, the songs on Breathe take a far more focused approach, as if looking down into a deeper body of water. The band was pared down to four players: Jean Synodinos (lead and background vocals, acoustic guitar); Charles Rieser (electric and acoustic guitars, ambient sounds); Rob Hooper (drums and percussion); and, Brad Houser (bass and baritone sax). The album's tracks are bookended by distinctly different versions of the same song -- Yes -- because, as we all know, the same word can have distinctly different meanings at any point in time.

Jean recommends "Waiting for the Light to Change" for its ambient sounds: Brad Houser's baritone sax (which sounds like trucks on a distant highway), as well as the sound of actual windshield wipers coming out of the bridge.
