About "Girls, Good & Otherwise"
Girls, Good & Otherwise represents the voices of women young and old we've loved... or not... told with discreet winks and persuasive nudges. The stories on this CD are bookended by songs that seek to apply a little perspective (because it's true that "You're Only Human" and we all want "Nothing But Love), and they've been brought to life by an exceptional group of Austin artists. The core band included: Jean Synodinos (lead and background vocals, acoustic guitars, ukulele, electric sitar, keyboards); Charles Rieser (electric and acoustic guitars, omnichord, vibratone, keyboards); Rob Hooper (drums and percussion); and, Bruce Hughes (bass and background vocals). Guest artists included: Red Young (B3, keyboards), Redd Volkaert (electric guitar), John Pointer (cello, beatbox), Carlos Sosa (saxophone), and Katie Gosnell (background vocals). Matt Shultz at Satellite Studios was an incredible engineer, and Charles Rieser brought the A-game to production for each track.
Jean's absolute, hands-down, favorite moment: Bruce Hughes' TLC-like stacked background vocals on the bridge for "Full Moon Eclipsing." They fly by, but they're worth the entire cost of admission. Jean also highly recommends Redd Volkaert's blistering guitar on "Perfect Crime," as well as John Pointer's cello on the bridge for "Knife." But her sentimental favorite (not an opinion shared by others), is still the first track, "You're Only Human." Interestingly, Charles' favorite song is the last track, "Nothing But Love."
